Off to University or off travelling and want to learn how to cook healthy and inexpensive meals for yourself and your friends? On this course we will prove that you can eat well even on a limited student budget!

This practical course will equip you with all the skills and knowledge necessary for feeding yourself with quick, healthy, and delicious meals all on a limited budget. We assume no previous culinary knowledge and guarantee that by the end of the course, you will be able to put together delicious meals for yourself and your housemates, easily and more importantly cheaply.

Each day starts at 10 am and finishes at 4pm. Everything is provided for you on this course including a folder of all the recipes, hints and tips covered throughout the course held at our kitchens in Perthshire, Scotland.

  • How to organise yourself in the kitchen
  • How to read a recipe
  • Measurements
  • Essential knife skills – how to sharpen a knife
  • Eggs – how to cook
  • Floured thickened sauces
  • Sauces – quick Mediterranean sauces
  • How to prepare and cook meat
  • Soups
  • Roasting 
  • Rice and pasta cooking
  • Beginners’ fish skills
  • How to cook vegetables 
  • Beginners’ baking skills 
Here are some typical recipes that you will cover on the course (subject to seasons and availability):
  • Minestrone with homemade pesto
  • Eggs – scrambled, omelettes, poached
  • Roast Chicken with good gravy
  • Turning leftovers into new meals
  • Cheese sauce – macaroni cheese
  • Cottage Pie
  • Salmon en papilotte (salmon cooked in a parcel)
  • Useful and adaptable tomato sauce

Our longer cookery courses are a great way to learn new skills and flavour ideas in a fun and relaxed atmosphere at our Perthshire cookery school. They are suitable for all levels, from the complete beginner, to someone who is looking to broaden their culinary repertoire. They have been carefully designed to help you develop all the skills and confidence required to become a competent cook, capable of dealing with all culinary situations, and of course, producing delicious food.

Here is what to expect on our longer courses:

  • Small and informal classes. 6 students maximum
  • Course starts at 10am and ends around 4pm
  • Mixture of demonstrations & practical sessions; we believe that you can’t really get to grips with something unless you get your hands dirty!
  • All ingredients are weighed out for you in advance, giving you more time to spend on cooking
  • Recipes Folders provided
  • Aprons and all equipment provided

You just need to bring yourself and a good appetite!

After the initial booking we will contact you to confirm the booking and then be back in contact in good time before the course starts to confirm all the arrangements.

Booking Procedure

What to expect when you book a place on a course at Let’s Cook Scotland.

Book your place online or over the phone.

A booking email will follow to confirm your booking (NB even it is for two or more places it will still just say thank you for your booking.) If you don’t receive an email thanking you for your booking you have not got a place on the course. The email is immediate if booking online and if done by phone, it will come through once we have manually booked you on to the course.

Please check your spam folder if nothing comes into your in box.

We will then keep in contact by email or by phone if you have asked us to.

An automated reminder will drop into your in box ten days before the course. This is followed up by a more personal email from us with any particular instructions/directions for the course.

If you do not receive any emails from us please contact us ASAP, as you may not be booked on to the course.
