Cooking for Friends

2-Day For everyone who loves to cook and entertain, but doesn't always have the hours to prepare.
Tutor: Sarah Mellersh

Price per person: £220
Time: 10am to 4pm

Description

Call me selfish, but I like to enjoy myself when I entertain at home so I designed this course! I have a young family and work full time, but when I have friends and family around I want to produce delicious meals which I enjoy cooking, don't take all day and everyone will love.

Stress free cooking

Is the main focus of this course.  I believe that to achieve a memorable night it must also include a calm, and relaxed cook sitting with their guests and not stuck behind the kitchen door in a mild flap. Along side showing you new ways with meat, fish and vegetables and of course scrumptious puddings we will also cover the following:

  • How to plan your menu - makes life so much easier
  • Ordering quantities
  • How and what to prepare ahead - here we use my background as a private caterer to show you the tricks of the trade
  • Mistakes and how to rectify them! - believe me I have had to get myself out of some tricky culinary mishaps! I will share secrets!
  • Presentation skills, how to turn simple meals into restaurant standard - we all want to show off sometimes!

Here is a flavour of some of the dishes we will be cooking on this course

Please note the menu may change depending on season.

  • Gazpacho with Parmesan Shortbread - perfect for outside entertaining , yes I know we live in Scotland, but great informal starter.
  • Pulled Pork with Pickled Carrot Salad
  • Moroccan Spiced Lamb with Bulgar Wheat Salad and Tzatkiki
  • Elderflower Sorbet - fab as a pre pudding, i.e a palate cleanser
  • Lemon Curd Ice Cream - a real crowd pleaser and so good with Scottish Raspberries
  • Pistachio Meringue cake with orange curd and Raspberries - gluten free, do ahead, feeds a crowd
Here is one of the recipes that we do on the 2 day course, Elderflower Sorbet
