Let's Decorate!
Sarah Morgan runs our cake decorating classes here at Let's Cook! Sarah owns her own successful cake decorating company, making cakes for all different types of occasions whilst also supplying a number of restaurants, delis, and coffee shops with her delicious cakes.
Introduction to cake decorating course 6 hours in total - £90
Saturday 6th March, 1-4pm
This course starts at the beginning and will teach skills from icing a cake, how to make sugar flowers and up to intricate pastillage work. We are running this just before Mother's day and this would make the most amazing Mother's day present. A beautifully decorated cake, topped with spring flowers in a handmade pastillage basket. We think she would be impressed! However the skills learnt on this will enable you to ice and decorate cakes for all occasions.
Please note that this course will run over two consecutive Saturdays as we have to allow time in between to allow the fondant icing to dry before assembling. The course is a mixture of demonstrations and practical sessions. All materials are included, a choice of either fruit or sponge cake and of course you will be taking home a fully decorated cake.
On the first day Sarah will begin by demonstrating the following
- How to make a pastillage basket and basket handle twist.
- How to make sugar primroses, leaves and how to wire and tape them.
Then your turn! Sarah will be at your side to help you get started and get everything ready for assembling the cake on the next session. .
Saturday 13th March, 1-4pm
On this day Sarah will show you how to do the following
- How to assemble and finish off the basket.
- How to prepare, marzipan (if using a fruit cake) and ice a cake, ensuring that all important smooth finish
- The intricate art of ribbon insertion
- Frills and bows for the cake
- Finish off the primroses and leave and then the all important assembing of the cake and all the finishing touches!
Then your turn! Sarah will help you achieve a beautifully decorated cake fit for any Spring table.
How to make S ugar Flowers 4 hours in total - £50
Please note that this course will run over two consecutive Saturdays as we have to allow time in between to allow the fondant icing to dry before assembling.
This course is a mixture of demonstrations, and practical sessions. All materials are included in the price and you will take home all that you make.
Sunday 21st March - 2hours, 2-4pm
We will start of with a demonstration on the following
- How to colour icing
- How to make floral sprays roses, cala lilies, quick orchids, filler flowers.
Then your turn! With Sarah at your sided helping you, you make the centres for roses, cala lilies, quick orchids. After this you will wire and tape them.
Then on to making rose petals, cala lily petals and centre petal for orchids and finally various shapes of leaves, all of which you will wire and tape before you leave. Sunday 28th March - 2 hours, 2-4pm
Now that everything has had a good amount of time to dry. It is time to start assembling, painting and putting the finishing touches to your flowers. So in this session we will be doing the following:
- Assemble the ivy leaves, vein with paint and then wire and tape
- Assemble the cala lilies, roses and orchids,
- Make a selection of filler flowers for the sprays and then assemble, wire and tape the sprays
